It’s the end of your shift. You can now finally disconnect and relax and then, boom! There goes the telephone again. So many excuses spring to mind regarding the many possible people who could be ringing you and you just don’t want to answer. But what if it’s important? What if it is a call you were expecting?
And yet again, your peace is disturbed by a cold caller offering their latest tariffs and promotions and, once again, you hang up.
What is the Robinson list?
The Robinson list is a Mail Preference service. This means it’s a free service to which you can subscribe online to reduce the amount of cold calling you receive. Your contact details, whether it be email or telephone, will be placed on a blacklist.
It is compulsory for marketing companies to check the Robinson list and the details listed to refrain from establishing marketing communication with them.
Will this completely stop cold calling/email spam?
This is up to each and every individual. When we are signing contracts, accepting cookies and allowing permissions, every time we enter our details, we are usually consenting to marketing schemes, so it is important to read the tick boxes before you sign up to a service. There are companies to whom we consent to give our details, unless we expressly revoke our consent, these companies are allowed to contact us with offers, however, if they sell our details to a third-party company, this company must check the Robinson list and if we are on it, they are not allowed to contact us.
What if a company refuses to cease contact with me?
If you have revoked all consent and are on the Robinson list, the company responsible for the “harrassment” are punishable by law, including compensating the client. Usually, as soon as soon as you receive a cold call and say “Robinson List”, you may hang up and they will not contact you further.
